Vet Oversight | USDA Approved | Higher Standards

We earned our USDA Class A License for our Ruby Rollers breeding facility—an unheard of achievement in the roller pigeon hobby. This license means we meet or exceed federal standards for animal care, housing, health oversight, and record keeping.

Our loft isn't just a backyard setup—it's a purpose-built, professionally maintained environment designed to promote health, performance, and consistency in every bird we raise. USDA licensing ensures our operation is regularly inspected, documented, and held to a higher bar of accountability than what most hobbyists back-yard sellers will ever pursue.

Veterinary oversight is also part of this process. As a licensed facility, we work with a veterinarian to ensure the health and wellbeing of our stock and are following proper protocols and respond proactively to health concerns. This isn't about treating illness—it's about preventing it through intelligent design, proper sanitation, and careful oversight.

What does this mean for you?
  • Confidence that your birds come from a clean, USDA compliant, and well-run facility
  • Assurance that our health and breeding protocols are based on structure—not guesswork
  • A real standard behind the claims of "quality and healthy stock"

In an era where talk is cheap, USDA licensing is a proof point. It shows we take our role as breeders seriously—and that we're committed to more than just producing birds. We're building trust, one customer at a time.

This thread gives you a look behind the scenes at the oversight, routines, and systems that uphold our commitment to health and quality.

A Brief Introductory History Behind the Ruby Rollers Strain of Birmingham Rollers

The Ruby Rollers strain was officially founded by Tony Chavarria in 1993 to pursue Lewis Wright's timeless performance standard:
"the true Birmingham Roller which turns over backward with inconceivable rapidity through a considerable distance like a spinning ball."

Built on Pensom principles, we sourced foundation birds from a respected Southern California fancier known for selective breeding and flyer performance who acquired his stock from like-minded top fanciers.

In 2005, we relocated to Southern Missouri to operate year-round and run a full-time, professional roller pigeon breeding facility.

While developing our line we identified what we coined "The 5 Primary Traits"Roll, Depth, Control, Quality, and Type — as our guiding pillars, honoring over a century of Birmingham Roller tradition. Every bird is evaluated against these key characteristics.

This thread offers an introduction to our history, philosophy, and mission — from SoCal roots to Missouri lofts.
